New CCTV cameras being installed to increase public protection and tackle crime
New CCTV cameras are being installed in Alsager next week in a bid to increase public protection and tackle crime.
The first of the three new cameras financially supported by Alsager Town Council will be installed next Thursday (March 21st).
The final one will be installed sometime in April, say Cheshire East Council who have written to businesses and residents in the area.
Cheshire East say in a letter to residents: "Following several meetings with Alsager Town Council to review the current coverage of existing CCTV cameras in the area and as part of our ongoing commitment to use every available resource to increase public protection and tackle crime, a CCTV camera on Sandbach Road South next to Well Pharmacy is being planned.
"The camera will be installed following careful consideration to reduce the impact on people going about their daily activities.
"This means the camera will not point directly at any properties and when not in use, will be left in a fully zoomed out position monitoring the problem areas.
"It will also be used in strict accordance with our publically available Code of Practice.
"I want to reassure you that only footage captured relating to ASB and crime in the area will be viewed by officers.
"The install will also be regularly reviewed by the CCTV Manager and removed when necessary.
"The CCTV Service is independently externally audited annually on its compliance with privacy standards by the SSAIB to British Standard 7958 and has fully qualified and Police vetted staff operating the cameras."
