New Alsager restaurant granted late-night licence despite objections from residents

A new restaurant has been granted a late-night licence – and received the best wishes of some of the people who objected to it.
Bosphorus Dining on Lawton Road in Alsager originally applied for a licence to serve alcohol and play music from 8am to 1am on weekdays and up to 2am at weekends.
At a meeting of Cheshire East's licensing sub-committee last week, the restaurant's owners agreed to shorter operating hours.
The committee has now granted a licence for the restaurant to be open from 8am to 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, serving alcohol and playing live and recorded music until 1am.
On Sunday to Thursday the opening times are 8am to 1am, with alcohol served and music played until 12.30am.
Objector Emma Bowyer told the meeting most licensed premises in Alsager were respectful of residents.

"For you to succeed, you're going to need to have a really, really, good relationship with the people of that town," she said.
"We're not against growth, we're not against development, we're not against people coming in, but we have bad experiences where trouble-makers do come in and abuse our town."
She said she was concerned about the shisha, as the restaurant is advertising an outside shisha terrace.
"I'm just concerned that that practice, be it tobacco or molasses based, glorifies something that is now highly frowned upon," said Mrs Bowyer.
But she added: "We're all for you being there and having a very, very successful business.
"We just need the reassurances that you are going to respect the very core of our town, which is where you have chosen to set your business up…
"I'm very excited to have a Turkish restaurant. I can't wait to come in and try the cuisine."
Objector Rachel White said there were residential properties close to the venue.
"I do wish Bosphorus Dining success. They have invested time and money into the fabric of the building… and I look forward to being a customer there, but the experience of other central Alsager hospitality businesses has demonstrated such long licensing hours are not required for success," she said.
Alsager town councillor Sue Helliwell also raised concerns about the outside shisha terrace.
Cllr Helliwell said: "I do think you need to be mindful of the residents and the makeup of our town – and it's the main road to walk to school, to serve the secondary school."

She also said the restaurant had to be respectful of the solicitors who occupied the premises above the restaurant – who had objected to the hours but did not turn up at the licensing hearing.
"You have to bear in mind the clientele," she said.
The licence was granted with a number of conditions, including the external seating area must be closed between 11pm and 8am and no amplified music should be played through external speakers in any outdoor area of the premises at any time.
