Earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria are set to get a boost - thanks to big-hearted members of The Thirteen Club in Alsager.

The popular Cedar Avenue club, which hosts regular music, tribute and other events, raised a bumper £1,000 for the local Rotary club's Turkey and Syrian earthquake appeal.

And at the weekend, the club presented a cheque to The Rotary Club of Alsager to add to their earthquake appeal which is being sent to ShelterBox.

Steve Johnson, manager of The Thirteen Club said the money had been raised in two ways.

"Firstly the members and guests were happy to donate money over the bar and secondly the club ran a raffle with a single prize worth £500," said Steve.

"This was only possible due to a very generous donation of a £500 money off voucher from Sykes Cottages Ltd .

"The club then sold one hundred tickets at £5 each to raise an additional £500. The winning ticket was drawn out of the hat and the lucky winner was presented with her prize at the Tom Jones and Neil Diamond tribute night on Saturday evening."

A spokesperson for The Rotary Club of Alsager said: "A huge thank you to the 13 Club for their £1000 donation to our Turkey and Syria Earthquake appeal.

"This means another £1600 will be sent to ShelterBox which brings the collection to just over £4.5k. A big thank you to everyone who contributed."
