Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Redmond MBE, has heaped praise on Alsager's army of volunteers, describing them as 'quiet heroes'.
Lady Redmond was in Alsager today (Wednesday) to present the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service to Alsager Community Support.
She was joined by Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Joelle Warren, who lives in Alsager.
A special presentation was held at Alsager Community Church, attended by volunteers and civic dignitaries.
Lady Redmond said Alsager Community Support was one of the last recipients to receive the Queen's Award which it was granted in June.
The award, given to the organisation for voluntary service, is the highest a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
She said: "It is well-known in Alsager and the wider area that you are held in high regard.
"You are a most professional and well-led organisation, providing a great service to the local community."
She told how the organisation, based in Lawton Road, supports people "across the board" offering a range of services.
The centre provides information, support, advice and practical help for people in any kind of need in and around Alsager.
It runs a popular school uniform recycling scheme, a lost property service for Alsager, and an annual toy appeal at Christmas, plus a range of other services.
During the Covid pandemic, the organisation ran special services for local residents who could not leave their homes.
"An organisation like this needs a great deal of effort and you all play a vital role in its success. You have a local and proven track record," she said.
"You have made a significant difference to the local community, delivering a winning combination.
"You are the quiet heroes of your community and I am very proud for Alsager."
Founder, manager and volunteer, Liz Pinkney, who set it up Alsager Community Support around nine years ago, said she felt very proud and humbled.
Liz told the audience that the organisation has a 'can do' attitude which is based on team work.
"Gathering together and working together we can make a difference," she said.
"We're entering a new phase. We have just got charitable status and we are in a period of transition with an exciting future ahead.
"I'd like to thank everyone for their team effort. We do it together," said Liz.
Liz also praised the work of former assistant manager at Alsager Community Support, Rachel White.
