A Rode Heath Explorer scout has launched a fundraising bid so she can go to Korea next year on the World Scout Jamboree.

Seventeen-year-old Tiffany Starkey (known as 'TJ' – Tiffany Jade) has been selected to take part in the event when she will be representing Church Lawton, Rode Heath, Scholar Green and Alsager.

And to go on her big trip, the Alsager School sixth form student, a member of the 1st Rode Heath Scout Group, has to raise £3,800 towards the trip.

TJ has already raised £2,000 through various events including an abseil, working for a business in Alsager as well as setting up her own printing enterprise.

Now the plucky youngster who lives near Alsager is holding a fundraising bingo night at Rode Health Village Hall next Thursday (November 10th).

"I am representing Staffordshire scouts at the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea.

"At the Jamboree, I will have the opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.

"As part of my Jamboree journey, I have to fundraise," said TJ who is studying three 'A' Levels and hope to join the police.

TJ and her mum, Hazel Hodgson, are hoping as many people as possible will turn up at next week's event and take part.

Hazel said: "It's a brilliant opportunity for her and we are all so excited. She'll be travelling to different places and meeting different people."

The bingo evening takes place from 6 pm until 9 pm and will feature a variety of things, including a pie and pea supper.

"TJ has worked so hard with her fundraising and we're all behind her," added her mum, Hazel.

"Next week's event should be a great night and we're hoping as many people as possible will come along and support it."
