An avid football fan and a former teacher at Alsager School has launched a hunt for a flag which has sadly gone missing during the Euros in Germany.

And he's apologised to former students at the school to whom he'd promised to fly the flag at every England match until they got knocked out.

Paul Buttery, who taught maths at the Hassall Road school, has been travelling back and forth for the England games, fulfilling a promise he would take the flag, signed by students, with him.

Sadly during Saturday's (July 6th) epic match against Switzerland when England won on penalities, the flag went missing and despite searching high and low.

The flag was made by Year 11 students and Paul who no longer teaches at the school goes back out to Germany on Wednesday (July 10th)

He said: "I put my flag up in the ground on the side of the pitch facing the cameras, but towards the Swiss end.

"I didn't keep my eye on it during the game as I was behind the goal in the England allocation. Some fans nearby said stewards were taking down England flags, others said Swiss fans were taking them down.

"I tried lost property and asking some stewards, but no joy. Promised the kids I'd take it to every game I go to up until England get knocked out, so gutted to report that it won't be in Dortmund on Wednesday.

"I was, of course, hoping it would make it all the way to Berlin next Sunday. Sorry 11PBU, it's had some run though!"
