Hola! Linguist launches new classes so Alsager residents can learn Spanish in 2025
Linguist, Gisela Duran, can speak five languages – French, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese and English.
But the Barcelona-born language lover has one aim on her mind - to get as many people as possible to speak her native Spanish.
And Audley-based Gisela is launching new classes at Christ Church's hall in Church Road on Tuesday evenings from January 7th.
Gisela runs GD Spanish, whose website is here and is now running two classes on a Tuesday - beginners from 6 pm until 7 pm and Holiday Spanish 2 from 7.15 pm until 8.15 pm at Christ Church.
"I couldn't speak English when I came to the UK 24 years ago. I started from scratch and went to lessons to learn the language," she said previously.
"I know how tough it can be to learn a language but I have a real passion for teaching languages and it's something I love doing.
"It's important to remember that we all make mistakes, that's part of learning but you just need to go for it.
"There's so to gain from learning a language and travelling to that country. If you can't speak the language of the country you're missing out on so much.
"By speaking the language you learn about the culture and you pick up recommendations about food and so much more."
Gisela, who studied English in Chester and South Cheshire College, completed a PGCE at Staffordshire University to enable her to teach.
Recently relocated to Audley, Gisela says she chose Alsager as the next place to hold her classes due to its location.
"It's a lovely town and a great community and some great people have signed up to my classes.
"I get so much pleasure hearing from people I have taught tell me how they used their Spanish on holiday and travelling."
"When I came to the UK the only thing I could ask was 'can I have' and 'thank you'.
"Learning a language is about practice. You will make mistakes but you learn from them.
"It's about losing your inhibitions and just going for it! Homework handouts help you to go over what you have learnt in the class. Practice does make perfect!"
