A Scholar Green teenager who stepped out on a 50-mile walk to highlight the damage of short car journeys is speaking at an event next week.

Alsager Town Council is holding a climate action open meeting today (October 11th) at Alsager Civic at 7 pm.

Wolfgang Wood, founder of Cheshire East Young Greens, who walked form Kidsgrove to Manchester to highlight the damaging effects of short car journeys as we revealed here , is guest speaker.

The aim of the meeting is to find out what environmental actions are important to Alsager residents, plan actions and form groups to carry out these actions.

Town councillors Rachel White and Michael Unett will be outlining the timetable at next Wednesday's event.

Among the things on the agenda is an outline of town council projects agreed for 2022/23 including tree planting, free saplings for residents, ELF and Green Fair Saturday.

Also on the agenda are climate change concerns, asking questions such as what can or should be done in Alsager and encouraging suggestions.

Volunteers are also needed as tree wardens at Fairview and Wood Park and community orchard as well as other projects such as Plastic Free Community (Surfers Against Sewage).

Cllr White said: "Anyone is welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible."
