Death in Paradise Director, Ruth Carney, has heaped praise on one of the main characters, the Police Commissioner, Don Warrington.

Ruth, who grew up in Talke Pits, says she feels "very privileged" to be working with him and will be watching the new series closely when it starts on TV tonight (Friday).

The 45-year-old spent 10 weeks on the sun drenched shores of the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe filming the last two episodes of the new series.

She said: "He is a brilliant actor and really gets into the character. I feel very privileged to be working with him."

Don was awarded an MBE in the 2008 Birthday Honours and plays the part of Commissioner Selwyn Patterson.

Ruth, who now lives in Sandbach, has been invited back to direct more episodes and is really excited to be working with Don again and the rest of the cast.

She said: "There's an amazing guest cast. The production combines a regular cast with a guest cast and it's a great formula.

"It's something families can watch together and of course it shows the island which is just an amazing place."
