A former nursery teacher who swapped the classroom for waging a war on sustainable living has seen her dream come true.

Fifty-three-year-old Rose King opened Rose's Refills in Lawton Road at the weekend just along from the old Bank Corner, leaving an academic career of 22 years.

And the former nursery teacher says the idea has met with a positive response with a 'steady flow' of customers flooding through the door.

'Rose's Refills' aims to offer 'a sustainable solution' to plastic packaging.

"We had a steady flow of customers on Saturday when we opened, some coming to see what we had, several buying and lots of positive comments," said Rose.

Rose was inspired to embark on a sustainable lifestyle by daughter, Chloe, after she did a Masters at the Centre of Alternative Technology as we revealed in a previous article here

"It's about making changes, however small or big they are, for future generations," Rose said previously.

"We don't know what life will be like in the future but we need to start thinking about what is happening and the impact we're having."

Rose said she has spent the last year waiting for the right premises in Alsager to come on to the market.

And she believes her shop could also help families struggling with the cost-of -living crisis.

Rose said: "Customers will be able to come in and buy as little or as much of a product they want.

"This could just be a cup of pasta for example for one meal or it could be more if they want it. The quantity doesn't matter. It's all about following a sustainable lifestyle."

Rose worked at Springhead Primary School in Talke Pitts and is hoping parents and families from there will come and visit her shop as well as members of Alsager Tangent club, of which she's a member.
