Halloween isn't a walk in the park for many pets, who hate loud noises and could be tempted by 'trick or treat' sweets left lying around, not to mention pumpkins!

But Carl May, Registered Veterinary Nurse and practice owner of Vets 4 Pets Alsager, pictured below, who adores animals, has come up with a plan.

Carl's passion for animals is unstoppable as we revealed in this previous article here and here he shares some of his top tips for keeping your pets safe this Halloween.

Carl said: "Move treats and decorations out of reach. Popular Halloween treats like sweets contain high amounts of sugar and may contain toxic ingredients.

"Chocolate is toxic to pets, so should always be kept well out of reach. If your pet does manage to eat any treats you should contact your local vet for advice immediately."

Carl also says pumpkins are a classic element of Halloween, and whilst they are non-toxic, they can cause stomach upsets if large amounts are eaten - so make sure to move pumpkins well out of your pet's reach.

"It's a good idea to make sure your pet is used to the sounds of people knocking on the door and visiting the house to avoid distressing them," he added.
