Alsager mum forecasts a bright future for children with project to aid emotional literacy

A former assistant headteacher has developed a project to ensure primary aged children are in touch with their emotions and understand each other better.
And now the mum-of-two is hoping to take her project, "We Are Sky", into primary schools and other educational facilities to spread her love of emotional well-being for children and help them stay happy.

Felicity Hawkins from Station Road Alsager runs Fledging Education CIC and is offering to run free assemblies on her "We Are Sky" project.
And the fun-loving mum, who has taught in schools not only in the North West but also in the West Midlands, is doing a 24 mile fundraising 'Six Peaks' walk from May 31st - June 1st to kick-start the project.
She has launched a Go Fund page here to provide further funding for the project, which will employ the services of a graphic designer and others.
"The project helps children and young people explore healthy ways of undersanding and expressing their emotions by using weather as a metaphor for our emotional landscapes," said Felicity.
"It encourages the idea that there is no right or wrong way to feel - only more or less effective ways of communicating. It's ok to crave the shade for example as well as the sun.
"It's about communicating our feelings with conviction. The project is about building empathy and helping youngsters to understand each other more effectively."

Felicity, who has built a wealth of experience up during her years of teaching, is planning to take the project into local schools including some in Cheshire including Alsager and Staffordshire.

She has written to schools offering to give an assembly on the project when she will talk about what makes us human - our vast and varied '"emotional spectrum".
She added: "WE ARE SKY: Learning to Stand the Storm is a new workshop designed to nurture emotional literacy in children and young people through creativity and self-expression.
"Blending art, poetry and soundscapes with the natural world, the project is designed to be more than a lesson- it's an opportunity to reshape how we support mental well-being in education and the community.
"We simply cannot just rely on our current system to develop emotional communication and support our children in becoming the next generation of problem solvers through kindness, empathy and understanding."
