Firefighter charged with causing death by dangerous driving appears in court

A man charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died following a crash in Alsager has appeared in court.
The driver of the fire engine, 57-year-old Kevin Simpkins, of Congleton, appeared at Crewe Magistrates' Court today (Friday 23 January) and is due to appear at Chester Crown Court on 20 February for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Police were called to the scene at the junction with Crewe Road and Close Lane at 7.22am on Friday 28 March 2025 where there had been a crash between a Lexus and a fire engine.
The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
