Alsager and Sandbach may not have had a beacon to light up in their town but residents didn't have to go far to join in the big celebrations.

The nearby village of Holmes Chapel, just down the road, drew crowds to party big-on style to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Its beacon was one of more than 2,000 worldwide to light a chain of beacons to mark the Queen's historic 70-year reign.

Crowds gathered to watch the beacon at the top of the tower of the medieval St Luke's Church in the centre of the village in a once-in-a-lifetime event.

And the village also hit the news and national media for its life-size woollen Queen, complete with crown, sash, handbag and pet corgi.

Created by Holmes Chapel Community Yarn Bombers, they began working on it in July 2021.

Well done to all the knitters!
