Crewe special school 'delighted' to win UK 2022 School of the Year award
A Crewe special school is 'delighted' after it won the 2022 School of the Year award - just over 24 hours after it had new extension plans approved.
On Thursday (December 1), Springfield School, Crewe Green Road, won this year's School of the Year - awarded by The National Schools Awards.
The award was handed out at a special ceremony held inside House of Lords, London.
Springfield School caters for children and young people, between the ages of four and 19 - who have autism, severe learning difficulties and complex needs.
Following the announcement, the Crewe school expressed its shock on social media.
A statement on Friday (December 2), read: "We found out last night that we have won the National Schools Awards 2022 "School of the Year" award.
"To say we are delighted is an understatement.
"We've just told the students and staff and the cheers raised the roof! Here's to everyone who has made this possible.
"Every member of the Springfield community helps to make this place worthy of the trophy."
This award came just over 24 hours after Springfield School had its extension plans approved.
On Wednesday (November 30), Cheshire East's southern planning committee gave the go-ahead for plans to extend the school's existing sports pavilion.
The approved proposals extend and re-model the existing kitchen facilities and provide additional off-road parking.
This extension allows Springfield School to accommodate an extra 60 pupils.
Springfield School should have 176 children on roll but currently has 213.
