ALSAGER Town have announced they won't be back in action until February next year because of Covid-19 issues.

After consulting with the North West Counties Football League last week club officials say they are suspending all first team fixtures until the end of January 2021.

A club statement said: "The decision has been taken due to Covid-19 restrictions and their impact on the running of the club. Should circumstances change following the next review of the tier system, football will recommence in accordance with league procedures.

"The club apologises for any inconvenience, and will make no further comment at this stage."

The Bullets last played competitively on Saturday, October 31 when they beat Eccleshall 4-0 at Wood Park. It was only their seventh fixture of a scheduled 38-game First Division South campaign.

The programme was paused at the beginning of last month when the country went into a second lockdown and while the North West Counties League programme restarted last Saturday (December 19) many fixtures are at the mercy of clubs located in tier three areas.

Cheshire East remains under tier two restrictions, which permits football being played at Step 3 and below. But Alsager have opted not to resume for now with tonight's (December 22) cup visit to neighbours Congleton among the casualties.
