Three ward councillors from differing political parties have pushed politics to one side and united to help improve pavements and roads in Alsager.

Councillors Rod Fletcher, Reg Kain and Brian Drake have pooled their ward budgets to fund a £58,000 project to resurface pavements from the corner with Church Road along Crewe Road on both sides.

And they are also using money left over to put weight limit signs restricting vehicles over 7.5 tonnes to travel along Audley Road.

The three got together in May and hope to see the work start at the end of this month (September).

All three councillors say the resurfacing of the pavement on both side of Crewe Road will help making walking and travelling in a wheelchair easier and safer.

Cllr Drake represents the Labour Party for Alsager on Cheshire East Council while Cllr Kain represents Reform UK and Cllr Fletcher represents the Liberal Democrats for Alsager.

Cllr Fletcher said the uneven pavement could lead to a child tripping up or falling into the path of an on-coming vehicle in Crewe Road.

"The pavements are bad and haven't been resurfaced for a long time. They are uneven and children could trip up so easily. It also makes it very difficult for those in a wheelchair or pushing pushchairs.

"We're using money left over from this project to put up weight restriction signs on Audley Road."

Cllr Kain said: "It's about making Alsager safer and using any money to ensure improvements are made. It's not not which party we represent it's about working for the good of Alsager."
