Working from home can be a lonely existence with only your laptop and phone often to keep you company.

Talking to colleagues on the phone or on a Teams call is all well and good says April Wild, owner of Wild & Wild, but it doesn't make up for real social interaction.

"Since Covid, there's been a shift for more people to work from home," she said. "That's great for mums who need to work from home but it can be lonely and can make you feel isolated.

"Isolation and loneliness is bad for your health. Research shows that loneliness is actually more dangerous than smoking 15 cigarettes a day."

To this end April, who launched the former Wild & Wild cafe in Congleton, is pouring her energy into helping empower women and has joined forces with Nikki Melhuish, co-owner of Home Coffee Studio in Alsager with husband Alex.

April is holding a Wild & Wild co-working event at Home Coffee & Studio on 26 February, a day for women working from home to chill out and get together with other like-minded females.

"It's easier making connections and working pn projects when you're surrounded by like-minded women. People thrive in social situations and it's a great way of making connections in your local community."

April, a mum of four, has boundless energy and has a clear message - slow down, connect, and live with purpose, taking time to make meaningful connections.

She said: "We're so excited to be bringing the Wild and Wild community together for a co-working morning at Home Coffee - an event designed for female founders, creatives, freelancers and business owners who want to connect.

"The aim is to get focused, feel inspired, work alongside like-minded people and build genuine connections without 'awkward' networking."

"We'll begin with some short, informal introductions from myself and Nikki our co-owner before opening up the room for some relaxed networking and shared conversations before settling into focused co-working time — laptops out, ideas flowing, coffee in hand. No pressure, no pitching - just working together."

Nikki, a teacher by profession, is also a working mum. She and her husband have two young children and set up Home Coffee & Studio in Lawton Road together as we revealed in our story here .

She said: "We set up Home Coffee because we wanted somewhere where people could meet and enjoy times with friends and work if they wanted to. We wanted a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere."

Books on the shelves and plenty of power sockets to plug laptops and phone chargers into mean the venue is perefect for either chilling or working or a combination of both.

April added: "My events are aimed at helping women grow and build their businesses, growing in confidence and empowering them to go forward. "

The Wild & Wild co-working event at Home Coffee in Alsager runs from 10.30 am until 2 pm on Thursday, 26th February (doors open 9-3) and tickets can be purchased here:
