One of Alsager's town councillors has resigned due to work commitments and applications are invited for the position of a councillor in the East Ward.

Alsager Town Council has a vacancy for a member in the Alsager East Ward after Councillor Joe Davies resigned just before Christmas.

Cllr Davies was the youngest member of the council aged just 21. Elected in May 2023 after the Local Elections, Cllr Davies was previously a councillor on neighbouring Church Lawton Parish Council.

He said: "I am a manager at Sainsbury's in Biddulph and my shift pattern and work commitments were making it difficult to attend meetings.

"I am sad to leave but unfortunately a new job had meant I was missing a lot of meetings. I haven't ruled out becoming a councillor again but it would depend on my work-life balance. "

To become a councillor, you have to be aged over 18 years of age, a registered elector in Alsager and interested in becoming a town councillor.

You will be expected to sign a declaration to the effect that you will agree to abide by the Code of Conduct, which governs the way in which all Councillors undertake their duties.

A spokesperson said: "As a Town Councillor, you will have the opportunity to bring local issues to the attention of the Town Council, and help to make decisions on behalf of, and for the benefit of the local community.

"Being a Town Councillor can be a very interesting and rewarding experience and although Town Councillors get no financial reward, many find it personally rewarding as they almost certainly do something positive and are able to influence decisions, which will help to shape the future of Alsager."

Further details of how to apply can be found on the town council's web page here
