Pupils at an Alsager primary school have new books for their library – thanks to a local builder.

Ray White answered a plea for help after Alsager Highfields Primary School put out a post asking for donations for their library.

Ray, who runs Ray White Builders, answered the plea for help and donated £500 to buy new books for the school's library to buy non-fiction books.

Now the school, in Fairview Avenue, is poised to open a non-fiction section in the library which is popular with the school's pupils.

Ray said: "I know how important reading is for a child's education and I am delighted to help.

"Children need to start reading at an early age and I just these books will inspire them for years to come," said Ray.

The books have been warmly appreciated by the school, which has a group of pupils who act as librarians.

Teacher, Julie Harrison said: "It's a generous amount of money and we're so grateful for the donation.

"We run an accelerated reader scheme and we decided to use the money to buy non-fiction books."
