An Alsager architect and coffee shop owner is set to have his trademark 'bun' shaved off to raise money for a project close to his heart.

Alex Melhuish, who owns Home Coffee & Studio in Lawton Road, hasn't had his hair cut for seven years.

But soon the father-of-two will face the big chop as he raises money for the regeneration of Flag Lane Baths in Crewe.

Alsager Nub News' sister site, Crewe Nub News, told here how plans to convert the former Flag Lane swimming baths into a community centre had been approved.

Now Alex, who worked on part of the project a number of years ago, wants to raise money for a project to create a tile mural at the centre and has set up a JustGiving page. To donate, follow the link here

"We wouldn't call it a trademarked look (or locks) but many of you have only known Alex with his man-bun," Home Coffee & Studio say on social media.

"But as cool as he looks, the time has come to turn back the clock and hard reset the mane.

"Such a change feels like it should provide more of an opportunity than just cooling Alex's head, so we're hoping to raise a bit of money and awareness for a local cause.

So we're putting a call out for donations towards the Flag Lane Baths project in Crewe.

"Any small amount you can spare will go directly towards the delivery of the project, which is admirably hoping to repurpose the old #artdeco Crewe Baths into a valuable community hub."

Alex added: "I don't like having my hair cut so I've just let it grow but now it's time to get it cut off.

"It's a very worthy cause and one that is close to my heart. It would be nice to have community artwork .

"No date has been set but it would be nice to do it actually in the baths and even donate my hair to a charity."
