Girl guides in Alsager will now be able to celebrate their 100th anniversary in style – thanks to an anonymous benefactor.

Alsager Nub News told here how vandals had snapped the top of a cherry tree planted in Cedar Avenue to mark the group's 100th year celebrations this year – 1924 – 2024.

As well as marking this milestone, the group hoped that the tree would grow, as Girlguiding locally looks forward to the next one hundred years.

Now leaders of Alsager Girlguiding have revealed that an anonymous benefactor has gifted a replacement tree which has been planted a Girlguiding plaque placed in situ.

Joint District Commissioner Teresa Longhurst, said after the vandalism was reported. "Back in November 2023, Girlguiding Alsager, with the support of Alsager Town Council and ANSA planted the cherry tree along the edge of the playing fields Cedar Avenue Alsager.

"This tree was funded by money raised by the members of Girlguiding Alsager to mark our local centenary year.

"As well as marking this milestone, it was hoped that this tree would grow, as Girlguiding locally looks forward to the next one hundred years."

The group has thanked those who have made the replacement possible.

"Many thanks to those who made the replacement tree possible, we are very touched by your kindness," they said on Social Media.
