Alsager residents can learn simple ways to cut their carbon footprint at major eco event

Alsager Town Council and the Alsager ELF (Ethical Local Fair Trade) Group are inviting residents, businesses and community organisations to a major environmental event this weekend.
The event runs from 9.30am to 12 noon on Saturday (31 October) at Alsager Civic and marks the first large-scale environmental awareness event jointly organised by the Alsager ELF Group and Alsager Town Council.
It forms part of the commitments made by Councillor June Buckley following her successful completion of the 'Speak Carbon Accreditation' programme during the summer.
This accreditation, which demonstrates a commitment to carbon awareness and environmental responsibility, is displayed on the Town Council's website.

Cllr Buckley said: "As part of the accreditation process, two pledges were undertaken. The first was to deliver a presentation to both the public and councillors on carbon awareness and wider environmental issues.
"This was successfully completed earlier this year. The second pledge was to organise a larger community event bringing together local stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and encourage positive action, leading to the event on 31 October."
Saturday's event will begin with a series of short presentations from individuals and organisations actively involved in areas such as carbon reduction, sustainability and reducing single-use plastics.
Visitors will also have the chance to meet representatives from a range of local businesses, environmental groups and community organisations.
The aim is not only to raise awareness of environmental issues says Cllr Buckley but also to encourage a stronger sense of community.
"By bringing people together, organisers hope to inspire residents to share ideas, learn from one another and discover practical ways to reduce their own carbon footprint.
"The event is open to everyone and is centred around a simple message: if we all do our little bit, together we can make a real difference."
