A primary school in Alsager has supported the mental health and well-being of their pupils during the Covid-19 pandemic through digital technology.
Excalibur Primary School signed up to Discovery Education Health and Relationships – a digital PSHE programme which helps students to learn about mental health and how to deal with change.
Designed to help teachers deliver the new relationships and health education (RHE) curriculum, the programme also teaches children about the importance of healthy and happy friendships and different types of families.
Child-led videos feature children being interviewed on key topics, using animation and bringing learning to life and providing opportunities for pupils to role-play and make decisions that directly impact their lives.
Excalibur Primary School has been using the technology across the school and assistant headteacher Daniel Hancock says it's having a positive impact on pupil well-being.
Mr Hancock told Nub News: "In September 2020, after taking a look at a number of different providers, we made the decision to subscribe to Discovery Education's Health & Relationships resources.
"These activities are accessed through the company's website and include a variety of videos and interactive activities for children from Years 1 through to 6.
"Amongst other topics, the scheme includes lessons on how to deal effectively with change, which has been particularly pertinent during the pandemic.
"Additionally, the lessons provide pupils an opportunity to express themselves, speak about their emotions and develop confidence to articulate their point of view."
Discovery Education is providing schools with no-cost access to Health and Relationships until October 31, 2021. Schools are encouraged to register here.
