Alsager Mayor, Councillor Michael Unett, has outlined the progress Alsager Town Council during his year in office at the Annual Parish Meeting this week.
Cllr Unett, who was raised in Alsager and went on to study Law LLB (Hons) at Manchester Metropolitan University, moved back to Alsager fully in 2016..
It's his second stint as mayor, having been first elected in May 2019 before being elected again in May last year. He told the Annual Parish Meeting: "It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve as the second Mayor of Alsager.
"As the public face of the council, the Mayor has the privilege of representing the community and engaging with residents, businesses, and organisations.
"Having a genuine interest in all that impacts the town, the Mayor's enthusiasm and commitment shines through in every interaction.
"Always mindful of the dignity of the office, the Mayor upholds the values and traditions of Alsager, ensuring that the town's interests are well-represented.
"As the first resident of Alsager, the Mayor's dedication to the community is unwavering, making a positive impact and fostering a sense of unity and pride among the residents."
Among areas covered in Cllr Unett's speech was the fact the town council agreed to a Service Level Agreement with Alsager Town Council to deliver separate to the Grants Budget in future support for the Alsager Carnival, Alsager's Christmas Lights and the Switch On event.
He also revealed that as a corporate trustee for Alsager Institute, the town council had been successful in achieving Lottery Funding for a new kitchen and new outside play area flooring.
The town council supports the operation of Alsager Civic and Cllr Unett said although no final decisions had been made, the town council was exploring options for purpose-built office space within the Civic and its grounds, saving residents money in the long run and investing in the Civic as a building and as an asset to our town.
"Further exploratory work and decisions will continue into the next Civic Year," said Cllr Unett.
Cllr Unett said Alsager Town Council had long fought for the ability to be able to provide Speed Indicator Devices itself to help tackle problem speeding.
He said: "Alsager Town Council has finally been able to purchase new Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) to install in problem areas for speeding using CIL funds (Community Infrastructure Levy). The first of these SIDs was recently placed on Audley Road and a second SID is due to be delivered by the council.
He added: "The aim is that these SIDs will be moved from problem location to location acting not only as a deterrent to speeding drivers."
Another item in his report is the formation of a Business Working Group.
" Alsager Town Council recognises the difficulty our local businesses and our high street is facing and has launched a Business Working Group to help support local business, boost our town centre and promote Alsager. The group has already had a successful launch and is starting to work with local businesses."
