Alsager has its second Reform UK councillor after the party takes another seat on the town council

Alsager was waking up to its second Reform UK councillor (today) after Wendy Whittaker-Large romped to victory in yesterday's East ward by-election.
Four candidates put their names into the hat with Wendy Whittaker-Large taking 401 of the votes in a turnout which amounted to 21.59 per cent of those eligible to vote.

Liberal Democrats candidate, Philip Williams, a previous town councillor and former chair of Alsager Town Council polled 288 while Labour Party candidate Margaret Wakelin polled 137 votes and Green Party candidate Charlotte Harding 86 votes.

Wendy Whittaker-Large , who has lived in Alsager for over 30 years, has promised to tackle three key issues affecting residents - cutting council costs, making Alsager safer and supporting local business.
She has promised to cut council cost by scrutinising council spending, challenge administrative costs, and cutting unnecessary bureaucracy to deliver better value for taxpayers.
""I will lobby to improve your quality of life in Alsager. I believe that your money is best spent by you, on things that matter to you," she said.
She promises to fight for effective traffic calming measures, particularly near the new Sainsbury's store, push for increased police presence to address speeding through the town centre, and advocate for essential road and pavement repairs.
And she has promised to recognise the importance of local commerce, opposing anti-trade policies such as extended car parking charges, and ensuring public sector bodies don't crowd out local businesses.
"Local businesses are the lifeblood of our community. They provide jobs, income and investment to Alsager
She has vowed to engage with and enable local traders, oppose anti-trade policies such as extended car parking charges, and ensure public sector bodies don't crowd out local businesses.
"Local businesses are the lifeblood of our community. They provide jobs, income and investment to Alsager."
Wendy Whittaker-Large will join fellow Reform UK Alsager councillor, Reg Kain at Alsager Town Council. Cllr Kain deflected from the Liberal Democrats to Reform UK about two months ago.
Cllr Kain said he was "thrilled and excited" to be joined on Alsager Town Council by another Reform UK member.
He said: "I'm looking forward to working with a colleague with a similar minded attitude towards issues facing Alsager."
