Alsager is set to be alive this weekend as the town gets together for a major focal event of the year – the annual carnival.

It's the first time since 2019 that Alsager Carnival has been held due to the pandemic and organisers, Alsager Round Table, are hoping it will be bigger and better than ever before.

And the town will be getting the royal treatment on Saturday (June 18th) as the theme for the carnival is 'The Royals', celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

It's the first carnival under the helm of the organisation's new chairman, Jimmy Ashley, and organisers are hoping it will be as successful as before.

A spokesperson said: "We've been very lucky over the years with the weather on carnival day

"It's always wonderful to see the Alsager residents out along the parade route supporting the floats as they pass by.

"To keep everyone safe, road closures will be in place between 12pm –1pm on Lawton Road, Sandbach Road North, Lodge Road,

Church Road and Crewe Road.

"Alsager Round Table would like to thank all of the local groups that make the carnival a

success including Alsager 41 Club, Ladies Circle, Rotary and Alsager Scouts.

"As always, this will take the form of a rolling road-block around the parade itself and we will do

our best to minimise disruption."

The 45-minute carnival parade starts from Asda Car Park at 12pm, turning out on to Lawton

Road, right onto Sandbach Road North, left onto Lodge Road, left onto Church Road and left

onto Crewe Road, before turning right into Milton Park."

The parade will be led by cadets from the Alsager 2493 Squadron Air Training Corps, followed closely by the crew from Alsager Community Fire Station with the local appliance, along with the Rainbow

fire engine and a vintage appliance.

Entry to the carnival in Milton Park is free of charge and the organisers say they have worked hard to raise extra funds for entertainment in the main arena.

Award-winning shepherd and sheepdog trainer, Thomas Longton, who has appeared on TV shows, will be doing sheep dogs displays.

Three athletes from the Parkour Action team will demonstrate strength, precision and co-ordination as they flip and leap across obstacles in their path.

There will also be food stalls, bouncy castles and trampolines and stalls from local community groups.
