It's 80th years tomorrow (June 6th) since the Allied Forces landed in Normandy in the biggest naval, air and land operation in history.

And Alsager will be commemorating D-Day with a special flag raising ceremony at 11.45 am attended by the Royal British Legion, Alsager Lunch Club and Alsager Highfields Primary School.

There's already a D-Day presence outside Alsager Civic with an amazing display of poppies and a paratrooper complete with a parachute organised by the Market Makers Postbox Toppers.

A spokesperson for Alsager Civic said: "What a fantastic job the Market Makers have done in creating this masterpiece outside the Alsager Civic.

"Such a lot of hardwork have gone into this and we would just like to say massive thank you to you all. Come and join us tomorrow outside the Alsager Civic for flag raising ceremony 11.45am with RBL."

Meanwhile nearby Church Lawton has its own events tomorrow commemorating D-Day with the bells at All Saints' Church being rung at 6.30 pm, ringing out for peace.

At 7 pm, the Union Jack flag will be raised at the church and from 6.30 pm - 8.45 pm Church Lawton Memorial Hall will be opening its doors for the community to come together.

There will be optional fish and chips (or bring your own supper), a bar, fun quiz and crafts for all ages. Email [email protected] if you would like fish and chips.

Fish and chips had a special place during WII as they were never rationed and legend has it, paratroopers called out 'fish' behind enemy lines, hopefully getting the reply 'chips'.

From 9 pm - 9.15 pm, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire will read the tribute and the beacon will be lit in front of the church along with other beacons all over the country.

On Sunday (June 9th), there's a D-Day 80th anniversary commemoration afternoon tea at Alsager Civic from 12.30 pm until around 4 pm (details on the poster below).
