Firefighters from Alsager and Sandbach spent more than an hour fighting a blaze on a boat on the canal at Rode Heath at the weekend.

They were called to the fire just after 4 am on Saturday morning and used one hose reel and breathing apparatus.

A spokesman said: "Once the fire was extinguished the crew removed a gas cylinder on board. No people were on board."

Firefighters spent around 80 minutes tackling the blaze on the Trent and Mersey Canal
