An Alsager councillor has got confirmation about parking charges set to come into force later this year in a main car park in the town.

Councillor Rod Fletcher, one of the councillors representing Alsager at Cheshire East Council, said a great "deal of concern" had been raised about new signage installed on Fairview car park.

He told Nub News: "Two signs were installed stating that Fairview car park is a short stay car park with a maximum of two hours parking one of which is in front of current all day parking bays.

"A third sign at the back of the car park states it is an all-day car park and charges will apply between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm.

"After raising concern over these conflicting signs, I have been advised that the signs will be covered until charging comes in, not now expected before the 1st December.

"The details of charges will be on or by the payment machines which have not yet been installed."

Cllr Fletcher's comments come after Alsager Nub News revealed here how Alsager Town Council clerk, Julie Mason was hoping Cheshire East Council saw sense and didn't impose evening and Sundays car park charges.

The results of a public Cheshire  East Council's statutory public consultation, which closed on October 9th are yet to be published, Nub News ran a story here about the consultation.
