Alsager turned back to clock to WWII as the town's annual carnival took to the streets today (Saturday).

A makeshift tank, land army girls, poppies and Union Jack flags galore were just a few of the floats on display at what looks set to be the biggest and best carnival ever.

Youngsters had spent hours putting the finishing touches to their amazing displays on the floats which paraded through town to Milton Park.

Even the deck chairs placed around the crocheted paratrooper display on the green outside Alsager Civic were in keeping with the day - red, white and blue.

Alsager Mayor, Councillor Jane Hearne, helped man a bottle raffle stall for the Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group.

And the sun shone as crowds gathered to watch the annual parade of the floats through town from Fairview car park to Milton Park. Alsager is gearing up for a major event this weekend – the town's carnival.

The parade theme this year was military to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the pivotal moment in WWII, the D-Day landings on Thursday when soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy.
