Alsager Town Council is to have a new clerk in 2024.

Nicola Clarke, who has been town clerk for six and a half years, is stepping down and semi-retiring.

The town clerk is also the responsible finance officer who advises and oversees the workings of the town council in both its consultative and service provider role. .

Nicola told Alsager Nub News: "It has been a privilege to serve the community which has gone through many changes with new housing developments increasing the population significantly and the financial pressures of Cheshire East Council which will impact on services in the town.

"Since joining, the town council has achieved National Association of Local Councils Quality status twice, a staff structure review has ensured the staff base is fit for purpose to manage the assets and Alsager Institute governance has undergone a major review.

"Every achievement has been possible because of the hard work of the officers and the support and dedication of all councillors.

"The preferred candidate has been appointed and will be named in the new year.  I am semi-retiring moving to work two days a week for a charity."
