Air ambulance called after woman left in critical condition in A500 crash

A woman was left in critical condition following a crash on the A500 today (Thursday 18 September).
Emergency services were called to the site of a collision between a car and a lorry near Audley at 12.14pm.
An air ambulance, two road ambulances, and two paramedics attended the scene. Officers from Staffordshire police were also present, who closed the northbound slip road.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on the A500 near Audley at 12.14pm.
"Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a car and a lorry had been involved in a collision.
"On arrival, crews found a woman in a critical condition and provided advanced life support before conveying her via land to Royal Stoke University Hospital with air ambulance medics travelling on board to continue treatment en route.
"A second patient, a woman, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to the same hospital via land ambulance."
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers have closed the A500 northbound slip road at Audley and Alsager while we attend a serious RTC. Drivers should take alternative routes. Thank you for your patience and understanding."
