A new Post Office branch is opening in Alsager – to meet growing demand from on-line shoppers.

The Post Office has announced that a 'lighter format' Post Office branch is opening at The Spar in Crewe Road in the shopping area opposite the Plough Inn pub.

The new service, which will be known as 'Crewe Road Drop & Collect Post Office', opens on Friday, 1st December at 1 pm.

Crewe Road Drop & Collect will offer Post Office services from a handheld device, providing customers with the chance to make bill payments and prepaid parcel collections and returns. 

The branch will run in tandem to the other Post Office already in the town, Alsager Post Office in Lawton Road opposite Asda in the town centre,

The Post office says: "In order to strengthen the network and enhance its commercial sustainability, we have introduced a lighter, flexible branch format call 'Drop & Collect'.

"This has been developed to take advantage of the opportunities a vibrant, and increasingly competitive, parcels market offers

"Consumer shopping habits have been changing and the popularity of online shopping has transformed the parcels market at pace.

"Drop & Collect will help us address gaps in service coverage, ensuring that we have the best network for parcels across all parts of the UK.  

"This will strengthen the Post Office brand and improve the ability to compete for additional business from new carriers for the wider network. 

"To maximise accessibility to these services that our customers are increasingly seeking, more complex services like personal and business banking will not be available at this branch."

 "A wider range of Post Office services are available from the nearby branches at Alsager Post Office, 28 Lawton Road, Alsager, and Rode Heath Post Office, 135 Sandbach Road, Rode Heath."
