A whole year group has been told to stay home and self-isolate after a fellow pupil tested positive for Covid-19.

The whole of year eleven at Alsager School, on Hassall Road, has now been told to quarantine for 14 days, with their return date marked for October 19.

All lessons for year eleven will be live lessons conducted via Teams. The school remains open for all other year groups.

In an email home to year eleven parents, a spokesperson from Alsager School, said: "You will be aware that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

"I have liaised with Public Health England and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we deal with this.

"We know that you may find this concerning, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England and are following their advice.

"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus will be a mid illness.

"We currently require all year eleven students to remain at home and self-isolate, until further notice. The self-isolation period will last until Monday 19th October, unless you are informed otherwise, by the school.

"Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the 14-day isolation period.

"All lessons for year eleven will be live lessons via Teams until further notice. The school remains open for all other year groups."
