A 59-year-old woman has died in a fatal collision at busy Alsager junction this morning (March 28), with Cheshire Police urgently appealing for witnesses.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 7.22am on Friday 28 March, police received reports of a collision at the junction with Crewe Road and Close Lane, Alsager.

"The collision involved a Lexus NX and a fire engine, which is believed to have been responding to an emergency call.

"The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital and was sadly pronounced dead.

"Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers."

Cheshire Police is now appealing for any witnesses to contact Cheshire Police.

Sergeant Andrew Dennison said: "As part of our investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident, we would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened and has not already spoken to police to get in touch with us.

"The same goes for anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage.

"You can report information to www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us or call 101, quoting IML-2057282.

"Our thoughts remain with the woman's family and friends at this sad time."
