Organisers are adding the finishing touches to an annual Christmas tree which is held by an Alsager church.

Each year at the end of November, Wesley Place Methodist Church opens its doors to thousands of visitors for its annual Christmas Tree Festival.

The Christmas Tree Festival is one of the highlights of Alsager's street fair, which accompanies the turn on of the Christmas lights which takes place this weekend. (November 27th).

And this year, the event is bigger and better than ever before with 47 trees including the ever-popular Memory Tree.

A spokesperson said: "This year the Memory tree charity will be Headway, helping people after head injuries. Headway has a charity shop in Alsager.

"There will be childrens' activities on Saturday morning with Jonny, our Youth and Families worker.

"Recycling and care for the planet is the theme for a few of the tree, and visitors will see that one tree isn't one in the normal sense, growing with leaves and roots.

"There will be the usual craft, and Fair-Trade stalls selling cards and gifts, and refreshments will be available throughout."

Tomorrow (Friday) the event is open from 2pm – 4.30 pm with carols among the trees at 7.30 pm.
