Supporters of a stroke and language group in Alsager are getting ready to put their best foot forward in a fundraising walk.

Last year, eleven walkers scaled the heady heights of Snowdon to raise money for the Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group as revealed here .

And next month (June), walkers will again be stepping out but this time walking from Rhyl to Llandudno spread over two days.

The walkers will be raising money for both the Alsager and Crewe arms of the group which doesn't receive any Government funding.

This year's walk takes place on June 25th and June 26th and walkers hope to raise around £1,000.

"Our mission is to empower stroke survivors to reclaim and rebuild their lives," said a spokesperson.

The Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group was created by Liz Bedson in 2018 after her own father survived a stroke.

She found out that there were no support groups that provided progressive and positive support.

So successful was the Crewe group that one in Alsager was set up last year as revealed here

The Alsager group meets on Thursdays 10.30 am – 12 noon at The Thirteen Club in Cedar Avenue.

"The groups allow every participant to enjoy and challenge themselves whilst being amongst people who have lived through stroke," said a spokesperson.

"After a stroke many survivors lose their confidence, self-esteem and identity so become socially isolated.

"We provide a safe and relaxing environment, with peer support and practical tools to develop new ways of communicating through engaging activities. We also have trips out for survivors and their families to enjoy."

The group has set up a JustGiving page for the Rhyl to Llandudno walk. Donations can be made via this link

Good luck to all the walkers training for this trip!
