Villagers launch campaign to save much-loved historic pub near Alsager

A much-loved village pub could be reopened as a community pub.
Local residents living near The White Lion at Barthomley have formed a steering group to save it and they have launched a survey here to look at the possibility of opening it as a community pub.
The half-timbered Tudor pub with a thatched roof closed over two years ago when Marston's ended its 20-year association and the lease came to an end.
Now villagers and others living nearby have launched a campaign to get it reopened setting up a Facebook page here called "Save the White Lion Barthomley" which has attracted followers and comments from far and wide.

The campaign group say: "As a community we voted in August at a parish meeting to buy the Barthomley White Lion and run it as a community pub and on 23 September Cheshire East Council accepted our proposal to form a community group to buy the group.
"The White Lion is an important part of village life. It gives people somewhere to meet, supports the church and village hall and brings people into Barthomley. Since it closed, many residents have felt the loss of that social connection.
"This survey is our first step. We'd like to know what you would want from a community owned White Lion. Please be as honest as possible.
"The survey is anonymous unless you choose to leave your details for updates."
