A village hall near Alsager which has served the community for the last 70 years has issued an SOS for volunteers otherwise it may close.

Lawton Memorial Hall urgently needs volunteers to take on day-to-day practical roles in its management as trustees and management committee members.

Since 1953, the hall has been a mainstay in the village and an important part of the village and community life.

Over the last 70 years, it has been used by many of community groups and members for events and activities.

Now the management committee is urging as many people as possible to attend an annual general meeting on Thursday (May 26th) to prevent it from closing .

The hall was refurbished following a water leak and is regularly used a host of organisations from a bowling club to a charity supporting those suffering from bereavement or a life-limiting illness.

Red Pilates, Clubbercise, Little Athletes, Line Dancers and Discover Dancing are amongst the long list of groups and clubs using the popular hall.

But a spokesperson said the number of volunteers has significantly dwindled over the past few years and attempts to find a part-time paid administrator and a caretaker have so far failed.

A spokesperson said: "Lawton Memorial Hall is a successful viable and popular community venue with great facilities but it cannot continue to run without volunteers to help.

"If volunteers are not found by the end of August, the hall, a major parish facility, is at risk of closure at the end of the year.

"It's a successful viable and popular community venue with great facilities, but it cannot continue to run without volunteers to help.

"If you are interested in joining the management committee or become a trustee, please come along to the Annual General Meeting to find out more information.

The AGM takes place at 7pm at Lawton Memorial Hall and all are welcome to attend.

If you cannot attend in person, you can dial in by Zoom by emailing [email protected] for the link or you contacting Tori Shaw on 07432 739313.
