Business owner and piano teacher, Hannah Donkin, is used to hitting the high notes with both children and parents alike.

The talented 29-year-old is the brainchild behind the fast-growing Music Squad which is a finalist in the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category in the Club Hub awards 2022.

Hannah, who has been playing the piano since a child, decided to leave the corporate world and set up her own business after moving to Alsager to be with her parents during lockdown.

She had watcher her mum's business, Rhythm Time Cheshire, grow from strength to strength and decided to launch her own business – putting the fun back into piano teaching.

The business-minded musician only set up Music Squad in September but already she has over 10 schools throughout Cheshire receiving Music Squad lessons and the business is growing fast.

She said: "Learning an instrument should be lively and fun and so often it's not, I really felt like everyone was missing a trick", explained Hannah (pictured below).

"Music has given me so much joy and I want to pass this on to children.

"We're on a mission to make learning an instrument as fun and joyful as it should be."

Hannah graduated with a first-class degree in music in 2014, and taught the piano in primary schools before leaving to work in the corporate sector.

During lockdown Hannah moved to her parents' home in Alsager and is now buying a house in Sandbach where Music Squad will be based.

Hannah has also written tuition books to accompany the Music Squad lessons for five to 11 year olds (primary age children).

"Lessons should be fun and cool and that's what Music Squad is all about."

The books are designed for children to take home and practice and have been written so families can engage with their children.

"Music Squad is all about making pupils feel involved and engaging them in everything we do. "

Hannah hopes to extend the business to the whole of the North West from her new home in Sandbach.

And next month (May) she will learn whether she has won a prize in the Club Hub awards 2022, the national awards for activity providers.

"Music has given me so much pleasure in my life which is why I want to share it with children and get them involved in learning to play the piano," said Hannah.

Music Squad has its own website – https://www.musicsquad.co.uk/ as well as Instagram @musicsquadhq
