A water company is carrying out a full repair on a leaky sewer in Alsager which has previously resulted in wastewater and excrement pouring from a manhole cover.

United Utilities' engineers have been on Talke Road, Alsager, near the Brook Villas Sheltered Accommodation, carrying out "immediate works to end unplanned interruption of supply or service" to residents.

Engineers will be carrying out an open cut excavation to repair the leak on the hydrant and they will be hand digging 1.5m under the carriageway.

Traffic lights are in place on Talke Road and the work is expected to be completed by Sunday night.
