Train travellers in Alsager are being advised to check services as a series of strikes hits the network from tomorrow (Saturday).

West Midlands Railway, Cross Country Trains and Northern Rail all announced strike action on October 1st, October 5th and October 8th.

Members of the ASLEF union will take part in action on Saturday (October 1st) and Wednesday(October 5th).

Members of the RMT union will take part in action on Saturday (October 1st) and next Saturday (October 8th).

Members of the TSSA union will take part in action tomorrow (October 1st) and in addition, engineering works are taking place between Birmingham International and Coventry on October 8th and 9th.

CrossCountry are advising passengers to only travel if their journey is absolutely essential, allowing extra time for their journeys, and to check the CrossCountry website before travelling as there may be last minute alternations and cancellations to services.

They say passengers due to travel on Sunday (October 2nd) or Sunday (October 9th) are advised to consider starting their journey later and check their journeys as trains may be starting later.

Tom Joyner, Managing Director at CrossCountry said: "These unnecessary strikes cause significant disruption to our passengers, and we are sorry for any inconvenience they will cause.

"We are working closely with industry partners to offer as many services as possible on 8 October and remain committed to working with colleagues so that we can run a robust service for the many people across Great Britain who rely on us

"We strongly advise passengers to check their journeys in advance, as many routes across the UK rail network will be affected. In some situations, it may be better to avoid travelling by train during this time and make alternative arrangements."
