Rail travellers in Alsager faced delays at the weekend following an incident on the tracks near the town.

Passengers said they saw police walking up and down the tracks early on Saturday night.

A spokesperson from Cheshire police said: There was a male on the tracks, near Alsager train station.

"A train guard managed to coax the man into the train and officers from British Transport police then took him to hospital to be assessed."

One passenger due to catch a train from at 22.49 pm said they were delayed with a message from rail chiefs saying "this train has been delayed by trespassers on the railway earlier today."
