Market traders in Alsager are getting ready for a change to the traditional weekly market.

From April, the traditional Wednesday market, set up in 1994 and now run by Alsager Town Council, is moving location.

It currently takes place on Fairview car park outside but the town council says the gazebos used are outdated and it can't afford to replace them.

A petition was even launched to try and save the market as told here by Alsager Nub News https://alsager.nub.news/news/local-news/furious-alsager-resident-launches-petition-to-save-alsagers-wednesday-outdoor-market-167911

But the town council has approved moving the market indoors inside Alsager Civic from April 5th with just two stall holders remaining outside using their own vehicles.

Traders fear the move will decrease trade and many are saying they will see how it goes inside and review the situation.

Steve Lovatt (pictured below), who has had a florist business at the market since it began said: "We all want to stay outside.

"It's heart-breaking and we'll have to see how it works out."

Hayley Elliott (below) who runs Scruffy Mutts Snack Shack which sells food and treats for dogs said: "We'll just have to wait and see how it goes inside. Most of my customers have dogs."

A spokesperson from Clem's Traditional Greengrocers, is also worried.

"Being outside works. I just can't see us getting the same number of customers inside Alsager Civic.

"It's very sad. We're going to see how it goes inside but if it doesn't work we won't be staying."
