An Alsager organisation has come up with a solution to save money on buying school uniforms.

It's estimated the parents can spend around £200 buying school uniform but Alsager Community Support has the answer.

The organisation, based in the building at the back of Alsager Community Church, has a pre-loved uniform shop.

A spokesperson said: "As we know, children grow so fast, often in spurts, meaning that expensive items are often outgrown much faster than they are outworn.

"With the present cost of living crisis, paying for essential school items can be a nightmare.

"However Alsager Community Support (ACS) is here to help. You may have seen the rail of pre-owned school uniforms on the pavement outside the centre.

"Inside there is a veritable Aladdin's cave with everything from blazers to school bags, from shoes to PE kits.

All the Alsager schools are represented. So why not call in and see what we have? A voluntary donation of £1 per item, from those able to afford it, is suggested, with all money going towards our running costs."

And the service doesn't stop there.

"If we don't have what you are looking for, you can place an order either by email or by filling in a form at the centre, with details of school, boy/girl, item required size, and quantity – we'll let you know when we have what you want.

"If you're not able to visit during our opening times then do give us a call and we'll do our best to see if other arrangements can be made. And, of course, donations of outgrown items are very welcome."

The collection includes supplies of shoes, Wellies, socks, tights and hats, and warm winter coats – expensive to buy and soon outgrown.

"We even have a selection of spare buttons to replace any that are lost. In fact, we have everything your child might need during the school year."

The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9.30 am until 12.30 pm. The link for the website is here

The centre can be contacted on 01270 876605 or by email [email protected]
