Virgin Media has connected 2,500 homes in Alsager to its ultrafast broadband network which will bring the UK's 'fastest' widely available speeds to the area.

As part of its 'Project Lightning' network expansion programme, Virgin Media is expanding its ultrafast broadband network across the UK, bringing average top speeds of more than 600Mbps to residents and small businesses.

Alsager is the latest area to benefit from Virgin Media's investment and later in the year, local residents are set to benefit from Gig1 broadband offering speeds of more than 1,000Mbps as the firm rolls out next-generation gigabit connections broadband to its entire network of 15 million homes by the end of 2021.

Virgin Media has continued to expand its network and install new customers during the global COVID-19 pandemic to bring ultrafast connectivity to more homes and businesses across the UK when they need it most.

Ultrafast broadband boost for Alsager residents – now 15 times faster than the local average

Virgin Media's ultrafast broadband speeds are allegedly 15 times faster than the local average.

The average (median) broadband speed in Cheshire East is 40Mbps.

Alsager residents will benefit from fibre to the premises (FTTP) technology which allows for "smooth, reliable connectivity in the home".

Paul Hutchinson, regional director for North West at Virgin Media, said: "We have continued to expand our network throughout the pandemic, helping to connect more and more people to the UK's fastest widely available network, and we are thrilled that this now includes 2,500 homes in Alsager.

"With our ultrafast and reliable services, our customers can spend more time doing what's important to them online, without their connection holding them back."
