Alsager Community Theatre has joined the campaign to help fund a new roof for the Guide Hall in Cedar Avenue.

Alsager District Girl Guides Local Association has launched a 'Go Fund Me' appeal here to pay for a replacement meeting hall roof.

The appeal for the hall, which is 50 years old, has reached £2,440 of a £60 k target and Alsager Community Theatre (ACT) is hoping to bolster this with their next performance running from 19 March until 21 March.

Alsager Community Theatre (ACT), who use the hall for some of their rehearsals, has invited Alsager guides to join them at their production of 'The Memory of Water' at Alsager Civic, to collect donations for the appeal.

A spokesperson from ACT said: "We use the Guide Hall for some of our rehearsals we we thought it would be a good idea to ask them to join use at our performances and collect donations.

Alsager District Girl Guides Local Association say they need to act now to keep the hall serving the Alsager community for many years to come.

They said: "When it rains, water gets in. The damage is active and the risk grows with every storm.

"We are part of Girlguiding, supporting girls and young women to grow in confidence and find their voice. Locally, more than 200 members aged four to adulthood use this hall every week during term time. Everything we do is led by volunteers.

"The hall is not only used by Girlguiding. It is a shared community space, used week in, week out by U3A, fitness and wellbeing classes, art and creative groups and local organisations needing an accessible meeting space.

"It is also a well used venue for overnight residential stays, welcoming Girlguiding units from the local area and from across the UK.

"The building supports the whole community. The problem we face today is that the roof is actively leaking, there is little or no insulation beneath it, the heating system is inefficient and costly and continued leaks risk damage to the building and its use."

"If we do not act now, the hall may become unusable. This hall represents decades of shared memories, skills learned, friendships formed, and confidence built. Now it needs the community that shaped it to step forward."
