An Alsager GP practice and an entertainment venue are working together to raise hundreds of pounds to help a colleague fund cutting edge cancer treatment in America costing £55,000.

Dawn Colvin, who has done work at Merepark Medical Centre in Alsager, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer - leiomyosarcoma.

Sadly before radiotherapy could begin for the 57-year-old, further scans revealed that the cancer had returned to her pelvic area and spread to her lungs.

Dawn, a data quality specialist, is currently undergoing treatment at Brio-Medical, a US-based retreat that offers a seven week, integrative cancer treatment and the family has launched an appeal to help fund it.

Now staff at Merepark Medical Practice in Sandbach Road South have organised a raffle and nearby Thirteen Club in Cedar Avenue is holding a Christmas fundraising evening next Friday night (December 22nd) to raise money.

Denise Smith, Practice Manager at Merepark Medical Centre said: "I've known Dawn for about 20 years as a colleague and friend and when she told me her diagnosis I cried all weekend.

"Dawn is such a lovely woman and would help anyone. We all want to do all we can to raise as much money as we can to help her. She's a fantastic woman.

"The Thirteen Club has been amazing and we're hoping next Friday's fundraising evening will raise as much as possible."

Emad Mahmood, the practice's clinical pharmacist, has donated a signed Manchester United shirt and Jo Webb, care coordinator and admin manager, has organised a raffle.

Emad said: "We want to do as much as possible for Dawn. We all remember her and we want to help in any way possible."

Staff from the practice will be attending next Friday's fundraising evening at the Thirteen Club organised by Steve Johnson who runs the club. The night includes a live band, Christmas crafts and a buffet.

Dawn's family, who have set up a 'Go Fund Me' campaign say: "We're not willing to let cancer write Mum's story. This treatment is her fighting chance.

"Every donation, no matter how small, will get us closer to giving Mum the best shot at a cancer-free life. Even if you can't donate, sharing this campaign with your network would mean the world to us. Let's beat this cancer once and for all."

Tickets for next Friday's fundraising evening cost £10 which includes a buffet and raffle. Further details available by emailing the practice manager [email protected]
