An Alsager group set up to help stroke survivors celebrated its first birthday in style with a Coronation party.

The Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor David Marren was in attendance along with members of the group based at the 13 Club in Alsager Avenue.

Alsager Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Group was launched at the beginning of May last year and held its first year birthday at its last meeting.

The group meets weekly on Thursday mornings from 10.30 am until 12 noon and is an off-shoot of the Crewe Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Group.

The group is run by husband and wife, John and Susan Wenlock-Smith, who live near Sandbach along with the help of others including lead volunteer, Liz Bedson, pictured above.

Alsager Nub News told here how ex-Bentley employee, John, suffered a life-changing stroke in July 2017 and sought the help of the Crewe group to help him get back on his feet.

He and his wife, Susan, a retired maths teacher, decided to launch a group nearer to home in Winterley and with the help of others, including Alsager Partnership, launched the group.
